The painful arc is one of the easiest yet most indicative tests we do to screen for shoulder issues. Watch as Jack talks you through the process.
Stand in front of a mirror
Raise your arm out to the side with your elbow straight, aiming to get it alongside your ear
Note the angle at which you feel any pain, discomfort or stiffness in the shoulder region
If it’s between 90 and 120 degrees, it’s a positive painful arc test which could be an indicator of:
Shoulder joint impingement
Rotator cuff issues
Frozen shoulder
or a range of other shoulder issues
If you’re getting shoulder problems, you know who to call.
